Taylor Swift has admitted that she doesn’t understand love yet.

The singer explained that she writes love songs because she is trying to “figure it out”, Showbiz Spy reports.

“I think the reason I write about love so much is because I have no idea what is going on with love,” she said. “It’s unpredictable and I haven’t figured it out yet.

“Every love story is different and I like to approach every person I meet like they’re a separate book, rather than a chapter in a whole book. I don’t have one general theory for how to date a person.”

However, Swift admitted that her shyness often prevents her from developing relationships.

“I would probably run in the opposite direction if I saw someone I had a crush on… and then write a song about it!” she joked. “Shows why I haven’t had successful relationships.”

Swift recently said that being single is in her “comfort zone”.

Backstage at the CMA Music Festival, airing on ABC Monday, August 31 at 7 pm central, Taylor Swift took the time to answer questions from the press. It is refreshing to see an artist in any genre of music answer questions as openly and thoughtfully as Taylor. When told that Reba McEntire “takes business pointers” from her, Taylor was flattered and said:

“Wow, that’s the coolest thing I’ve heard in a very long time. Thank you for telling me that.” Taylor went on to say, “Reba is absolutely one of my favorite people on this planet and you know, I think that when you’re making your way up in the music industry, you have all these heroes and the reasons why they’re your heroes are one thing and then as soon as you kind of get into the industry, your guidelines change a little bit. For me, my heroes now are great people first and great artists second, and people on that list for me are Garth Brooks and Reba McEntire and Faith Hill. People that I just feel strive to be great people and kind people first, before anything else gets factored in and to hear something so wonderful from one of those people on that giant, huge, amazing list, that’s awesome, I love Reba!”

Apparently current pop-country queen Taylor Swift is a Jack White fan. The singer said recently, “He’s awesome.” Swift told MTV News. “I love his style. I love his writing and I think he’s an amazing player too, so any kind of collaboration there would be really awesome.”

It’s always silly reporting on comments like this, because these are likely situations that will never come to fruition, but oh, what if they did? If Taylor Swift did a song with Jack White, cynical, vinyl collecting, top 40 spurning cool kids everywhere would have to reevaluate their stance on “Teardrops on My Guitar,” and probably not feel so ashamed when they admitted to liking “Love Story.”

What does Pink have up her sleeve?

The singer is the latest star confirmed to perform at MTV’s Video Music Awards, taking place Sept. 13 at locations around New York City, including Radio City Music Hall.

“Last year I got to jump out of a window at the VMAs in L.A.,” Pink said. “This year I can’t wait to blow the roof off Radio City in New York.”

And Pink is not alone.

“I love incorporating theatrics into my performances,” says Taylor Swift, who is also confirmed to perform. “The VMAs have always allowed artists to run with that.” Swift is set to sing a new version of her song “You Belong With Me” from her hit album Fearless.

In addition, Katy Perry, Ne-Yo and Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford are the first presenters confirmed for the show.

Despite teasing the Jonas Brothers at last year’s show, British comedian Russell Brand will return to host the event in September.

Swift, who is still riding the wave of the chart-dominating Fearless, recently revealed that, much like in Lovato’s case, she met Mayer via Twitter, and now she could be hooking up with Mayer in the studio for her next album.

“He Twittered the other day that he wrote a song, and he wants to make it a duet with me,” she tells Elle in the magazine’s new Women in Music issue.

“Waking up to this song idea that won’t leave my head. 3 days straight now. That means it’s good enough to finish,” Mayer Tweeted in March. “It’s called ‘Half of My Heart’ and I want to sing it with Taylor Swift. She would make a killer ‘Nicks’ in contrast to my ‘Petty’ of a song.”

Swift was more than flattered by the attention. “I freaked out when I heard, because I’ve been such a big fan of John for such a long time,” she told Elle. “I’m really excited about just the idea that he would even mention me in his Twitter!”

In May, Mayer took their partnership offline and onstage in L.A., when he joined Swift for a duet of his hit “Your Body Is a Wonderland” and her song “White Horse.”

Of course, a new album also means that Taylor will have to write new songs about the boys who have done her wrong. On the Fearless track “Forever and Always,” she shared her side of her breakup with Joe Jonas, and she promises that kind of honesty won’t fade for her next album.

“There are definitely breakup songs on this record, but not too many,” she said, which makes sense, since she’s probably too busy for guys these days.

“I like to balance out the amount of happy songs, breakup songs, sentimental songs, I-miss-you songs, angry songs,” she told the magazine. “I don’t want to try and harp on the same emotion too much because I feel like if you make the ‘angry’ album, that’s going to lose people.”
